Church
“Whoever
loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son
or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up the
cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” Matthew 10:37-38
“And
pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers! For
whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and
mother.” Matthew 12:49-50
“If
another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when
the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that
one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so
that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If
the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the
offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a
Gentile and a tax-collector.” Matthew 18:15-17
“Be
on your guard! If another disciple sins, you must rebuke the offender, and if
there is repentance, you must forgive. And if the same person sins against you
seven times a day, and turns back to you seven times and says, ‘I repent’, you
must forgive.” Luke 17:3-4
Baptism
“Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19
“The
one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not
believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:16
“Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the
kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” John 3: 5
“Unless I wash you, you have no share with me.”
John 13:8
Eucharist
Then
he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it
to them, saying, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in
remembrance of me." Luke 22:19
“Those
who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up
on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those
who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the
living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me
will live because of me.” John 6:54-57
“So
when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother
or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and
go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your
gift.” Matthew 23-24
Prayer & Fasting
“But
whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father
who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew
6:6
“When
you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they
think that they will be heard because of their many words.” Matthew 6:7
“Pray
then in this way:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one.’”
Matthew
6:9-13
“So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10 (cf. Matthew 7:7)
“Whenever
you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your
Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25
Then
Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose
heart. Luke 18:1
“Get
up and pray that you may not come into the time of trial.” Luke 22:46
“And
whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure
their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they
have received their reward. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash
your face,” Matthew 6:16-17
“Beware
of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them.” Matthew
